Good morning! We wanted to update you on the night. As we expected, Vivian was quite sad last night. We understand that this is part of her grieving process, but she does not want us to touch her or be close to her when she is sad. That is very hard because all we want to do is hold her and tell her it will be ok. Finally, she sat on the bed and literally fell asleep sitting. Matt laid her down and she slept from 9pm until just after 8am! She was exhausted from yesterday and needed her sleep.
We did not know how she would feel when she woke up. She was sad, but she did not cry! What a huge blessing. She let us give her breakfast and get dressed. There was even a moment this morning when she was sad and she came to Krista for a hug on her own! We know the progress will be slow and we pray that we can continue to support her how she needs us to.
Last night, I kept thinking about the foster mom and how she must feel today. She took care of Vivian for 22 months and I cannot imagine how hard it was for her to say good bye. Yesterday was her birthday and the day that she had to send Vivian off with her new family. What a difficult thing to do. We are forever grateful to her foster mother for the care that she provided when we could not. She even made Vivian some of her favorite food to have for the next couple of days. What an amazing gift to have such a wonderful person to take care of her.
We are going to the market today to pick up a suitcase. She has more to bring home than we thought! We are hoping that she continues to learn to trust us more each day.
Wow. Thank you for the updates! I can only imagine how hard it must be to not be able to physically comfort your sweet little girl. Yes, the foster mothers go through a lot themselves. I am so thankful for the wonderful women (families) that did an amazing job raising our two boys before they became ours. Hugs and prayers to you all!!! Travel home safely. And I'll do my best to not stalk the airport all day Sunday. Totally kidding on the last statement. Don't worry - I'm harmless. :) But, every time the boys and I go through baggage claim, we get extra sappy about which door we adopted Noah from and which door we adopted Caleb from. :) Travel home safely and I hope the adjustment continues to go better and better with each passing day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of your updates! We love you Struve's and the Bartig family just prayed for you all at dinner!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear Vivian got a good night of sleep. I remember when we first got Libby how she didn't want much affection from us. She would only let me hold her if she sat at the end of my lap. There was definitely NO cuddling!! That was hard for her momma, but it's all good now:)) That's great that she already came to you for a hug!! It sounds like she was well loved by her foster family. It's hard to think of how painful the separation is for them and Vivian, but I'm sure they find comfort in the fact that she has a wonderful forever family.
ReplyDeleteThe weather man is predicting storms for this area tonight ( Saturday ) and maybe Sunday. I will pray that your flight will be quick and uneventful. You have put your family into the hands of the Lord to go with you all the way to Korea and back. That trust is based on Love and Vivian just needs time to love her new family and then she will be fine.
